Gastight peltier cooler

Peltier cooling for cooling a gastight cabinet

Our customer designs and produces optical sorting machines. Various foodsare sorted using high-tech camera and laser technology. The machines are used worldwide.

The housing of the technology is gastight. There is nitrogen with a slight overpressure (40mBar) in the cabinet. However, the heat that the laser and cameras develop must be dissipated so that the components remain within the operating temperature. Peltier cooling based on an air-to-air system is extremely suitable for this. Adjustments need to be made to make it completely gastight:

  • Sealing all screw and thread passages on the inside
  • Custom insulation material
  • Custom-made fan bracket on the hot side so it seals all around the cooler

During the prototype phase we developed a test cabinet to verify the gas tightness. We now produce the coolers on a large scale and use the test cabinet in our QC to test the gas tightness.
At 40mBar overpressure there may only be a loss of gas pressure of 5mBar/hour. Our QC does the test at a pressure of 50mBar. The measured pressure loss after production is always below 2mBar/hour and therefore more than meets the customer's requirements.

We use the gas leak tester (DGT) from Imbema Denso for pressure measurement. Alflex Technologies designed the DGT and produces it on behalf of Imbema Denso.

We look back on good cooperation with the customer to solve the challenges of this project. Moreover, it is fun to use the gas leak tester designed and produced by us. This shows that the diverse disciplines within Alflex Technologies come together well.

Cooling Ferris wheel controllers

Air-to-Air coolers for cooling control cabinets

Vekoma Rides Engineering B.V. contacted Peltierkoeling.nl on behalf of Dutch Wheels for cooling control cabinets of Ferris wheels. Vekoma designs and manufactures all kinds of attractions such as Ferris wheels and roller coasters. Their attractions can be found all over the world in various amusement parks and in all types of climates.

Heat calculations of the control cabinet for Ferris wheels in Dubai showed that the cabinets would become to hot, when not actively cooled. Conventional methods like fans and liquid cooling were not an option, because the control cabinets are placed in the rotating part of the Ferris wheel. Vekoma therefore chose for a maintanence free cooling solution based on Peltier-coolers from Peltierkoeling.nl.

Because of the extreme conditions in Dubai and cooling requirements, the use of a standard cooler would not be sufficient. A fast delivery was on the other hand necessary. Therefore a custom made solution was needed, based as much as possible on our standard cooler, so we could fulfill the desire of a short delivery time.

Changes made to the standard cooler include:

  • IP68 fan on the hot side of the cooler
  • Sealing of all feedthroughs and holes for a waterproof assemly
  • Corrosion resistant

After a successful test the control cabinets are ready for use in Dubai and its hot climate.

Alflex Technologies looks back on a successful collaboration with Vekoma and we hope to see our coolers back on more attractions.

Organ assist liver assist peltier cooling application

Cooling for preservation of donor organs

Cooling for preservation of donor organs

liver assist

Organ Assist is founded from UMC Groningen with the goal to develop reliable systems that can preserve the quality of donor organs over a longer period of time. This increases the success rates of organ transplant procedures.

Variass Medical Systems has taken a number of systems in series production. These portable systems allow isolated hypothermic oxygen-rich blood flow of the donor organs during transport. This supports active metabolism and the donor organ will arrive in the best possible condition. The borchure of the Liver Assist can be found here.

Alflex Technologies supplies custom made liquid to air cooling assemblies for the Organ Assist that will keep the organs at the required temperature.

NLR chiller using liquid to liquid Peltier cooling

Custom cooler for the NLR

Custom cooler for the NLR

chiller

Alflex Technologies started a colaboration via Peltierkoeling.nl with the NLR (Dutch Aerospace Centre) to develop a thermo-electric cooler used in a high precision chiller. The chiller can cool down water to 5°C that has a flow rate of 70L/min. The precision is very impressive: ±0,0005°C.

The cooling power needed to achieve this is around 600W. To achieve a short lead-time and cost effecient soluation we’ve used, where possible, the parts of our standard cooler models. The very critical fabricated liquid part was supplied by the NLR. This liquid part is “sandwiched” between our coolers. With this assembly a cooling power of 800W was realised.

The chillers have the following properties:

  • Extreme high stability and accuracy (±0,0005°C)
  • Virtually vibration-free
  • Very low noise production
  • Adjustable via a web interface
  • Up to 27 external temperature sensors (NTC) can be connected to the system

We look back at a very pleasant colaboration with the NLR for this very challenging and impressive project! The datasheet of the chiller can be found here.
